Paint an Honest Picture of the Load

Say what you are actually moving. A few boxes is one job. A three-bed house with a sofa and washing machine is quite another. List the heaviest items first. Guess the total volume if you can. A firm that knows the real load can suggest the right truck and stop you booking something too small.

Read Every Licence Yourself Before You Write

Check your licence before you contact anyone. Some larger trucks need a category beyond the ordinary car licence. Others fall within it. Look at the categories printed on your photocard rather than relying on hearsay. Then say in your enquiry which categories you hold, so the firm can match you to a truck you may lawfully drive.

Propose Times the Day Can Actually Support

Moving days slip. Allow time for loading, the drive, unloading and a return trip for the truck. Ask for collection early and return late rather than squeezing the hire into two hours. If your move runs across two days, say so at the outset. Firms can often shape the hire period to fit, though particular trucks may already be taken.

Ask About Handovers, Charges and Cover Up Front

Put your questions in the enquiry, not afterwards. Ask how and where the handover works. Ask what happens if you return the truck late or with a full tank missing. Ask what cover applies to you as the driver and what any excess might be. Written answers at this stage prevent unwelcome surprises on moving day.
