Describe the Load, Not Just the Items

Work out how much you are moving, how heavy the largest pieces are, and whether anything is long or tall. A house move often turns on one bulky sofa rather than the boxes around it. Guess small and you face a second trip; guess big and you pay for empty space.

Think About the Working Day, Not Just the Drive

Sizing is only half the picture. Add up collecting the truck, paperwork, loading, the journey, unloading and refuelling, then compare that total with the hours you have. If the maths looks tight, a larger vehicle doing one trip beats a smaller one doing two, so decide early.

Name Every Driver From the Start

Only the people named on the hire agreement get the keys, so list everyone who might take the wheel first. Check each licence is current and the documents can be produced at collection. Bigger trucks sometimes carry extra licence conditions, and a driver uneasy with size is worth mentioning too.

Put Every Question in the First Message

Use your opening message to cover insurance, the excess, mileage, the deposit and whether a tail lift would help. Ask for the firm's document checklist and written collection times. Which trucks are free will not be settled until a booking is made, so describe what you need, not a model.
