Pin Down the Dates Before Anything Else

Fix your moving dates first. Weekends fill fast. Allow a generous window for collection and return, since paperwork and loading take real time. Work backwards from any fixed moment, such as a removal slot at the new house. Ask about extensions now rather than later.

Settle Who Drives

List everyone who might drive. Check each licence is valid and to hand. Declare penalty points or licences issued abroad. Adding a driver mid-hire means extra checks, so settle the line-up first. Ask what ID and deposit the firm wants at the handover.

Ask the Money Questions Up Front

Draft your questions before you enquire. What insurance comes with the truck? How large is the excess? How is the deposit held? What does the mileage allowance cover? Get every answer in writing. Assume the load itself is not covered until told otherwise. Read your own policy too.
