Start With the Driver

Think about the driver before the cargo. A bigger van means more width in traffic, more length at junctions and more height under low branches. Someone used only to a car may handle a compact van with far greater confidence. Have licence details ready from the start.

Let the Load Decide

Measure before you enquire. Note the longest, tallest and heaviest items. One awkward piece can swallow the space a dozen boxes would share. Straps, blankets and padding travel too and need room of their own. Weight matters as much as bulk, since dense loads like tools add up fast.

Check Both Addresses

Picture the van arriving at each address. Narrow entrances, tight corners and scarce parking can each rule out a large panel van. A customer facing a delivery with awkward access, for instance, often does better with a smaller van parked right outside than a big one left streets away.

Settle Timing and Terms Early

Give firm dates early. Weekends, month-ends and holidays draw the keenest demand. Count the whole day when booking: depot paperwork, loading, the drive, the unload and hand-back. Ask about insurance, excess, mileage and deposits before the counter. Your first choice of van may not be free until you book.
