Settle Who's Driving, and What They'll Show

Decide the driving roster before you reserve anything. If a partner or mate will share the wheel for the long stretches, they'll need to be added at the outset, with their licence and ID in hand. It's far simpler than trying to bolt a second driver on later.

Book a Window With Room to Spare

Give your weekend margin. A Saturday collection that edges into Sunday evening leaves little slack if a return leg runs long or the van needs cleaning first. Mid-morning pickups tend to feel less rushed, and returning a touch early buys calm on the drive home.

Let the Cargo Pick the Van

Work backwards from what you're carrying. A bootful of tents and a bike or two fits a short-wheelbase with room to close the doors; flat-pack wardrobes or a mattress demand the high-roof option. Measure the largest item, then choose the smallest van that swallows it comfortably.

Make the Handover a Proper Errand

Treat collection as its own job, not a drive-by. Bring your licence, a second proof of address and the card you'll pay on. Walk round the van with the attendant, photograph any scuff already there, check the fuel level, and ask about out-of-hours returns before you leave.
