Think Through Both Handovers

Most delays happen at the two handovers. Collection means a walk-round and signatures, so arrive with your licence and any paperwork already to hand. For the return, ask about fuel, condition and what happens if you run late. Those questions cost nothing beforehand.

Give Your Dates Room

Add up every stage of the day. Travel, checks, loading, the drive, unloading, the return. Each takes longer than it looks on paper, so round your total upwards. State clearly whether hours, a full day or longer suits, and flag any chance of a second day early.

Consider the Driver and the Ground

Be honest about who drives. A large panel van sits you higher and leans on its mirrors. Name every driver at the booking stage. Picture where the van will park too; a delivery to somewhere with awkward access, say, could call for a smaller, nimbler vehicle.

Write the Load Down

Draft your inventory on paper before the first call. Measure anything long, tall or heavy. Give the worst attention — pieces that refuse to stack set the load bay size. Put straps and blankets on the list as well. A fuller description earns a better recommendation.
