Put the Load on Paper Before Anything Else

Measure first. Write down every item. Note its size, weight and shape. Picture a fridge freezer meeting a narrow stairwell in a hypothetical move; that measurement changes which van you ask for. Sketch the load plan. Then read it back. A settled list beats a hopeful guess at the counter.

Settle the Driver and the Ground at Each Address

Ask who drives. Check they feel confident handling a bigger vehicle. Then walk the route in your head. Is the gate wide enough? Where will you park? A courtyard with a single entrance turns a quick drop into a shunting exercise. Decide the turning plan before you arrive.

Work the Timing Out From the Return

Start at the end. When must the van go back? Build the day backwards from that hour. Allow slack for a slow load or a lane blocked by a tractor. If the return time looks tight, book the extra day. An unhurried return costs less than a rushed one.

Raise Paperwork, Deposits and Cover in the First Message

Put the admin questions in your first message. Cover, deposit and driver requirements differ between firms, so ask for them in writing early. Some vans may already be reserved, so check what is actually free on your date. That early exchange saves a wasted trip later.
