Settle the Hours Before Anything Else

A hire day rarely stretches to a full twenty-four hours, so pin down exactly when the clock starts and stops. Collect at nine on Friday and return at noon on Saturday, and some firms will count that as two days. Ask before comparing prices, because the answer changes the quote.

Put Cover and Charges in Your First Message

Don't leave the question of cover until you arrive to pick up the keys. Send one email or message asking what protection is included, what the excess would be if something happened, and whether fuel and mileage carry extra fees. Written answers give you something to point back to later.

Give the Pick-Up and the Return Equal Attention

The drop-off deserves equal planning to the pick-up. Suppose you need the car to reach a Saturday appointment and the office shuts at midday — that constraint should drive your timing, not the other way round. Note opening hours at both ends and build in a margin for delays.
